NORCOAST: Integrated Coastal Zone Management and Planning

Aim of this project:

• To investigate and promote good practice in coastal zone planning through the study and exchange of experience on transnational coastal issues in the North Sea region.
  

The project would bring added value or additionality in seeking a much wider experience of transnational coastal planning issues for the North Sea region. The project could in the longer term benefit on other relevant European CZM projects.

Main objectives of NORCOAST project:

• To create a basis for the development of common guidelines for integrated planning and management of coastal zones with focus on transnational issues
  
• To create a strategy for North Sea coastal zone management, focussing on implementation and on practical solutions on a regional level
  
• To support transnational regional cooperation on coastal spatial planning
  
• To build up experience within the authorities along the North Sea to provide coastal zone planning in a more integrated multi-sectoral way
  
• To identify environmental sustainable solutions in ICZM by exchanging experience of best practises in ICZM between the regions or partners
  
• To disseminate this to other NSC/European countries/regions.
  

The following aspects will be of great importance in this connection:

• the transference of coastal zone policy to coastal zone management
  
• implementation the integration of multi agency or sectoral interest in both the planning and implementation stages
  
• involvement of the public (community/private and political interest) in the coastal zone planning and management process.
