The MARLISCO project has recorded 73 best practices that aim to reduce the amount of marine litter in Europe’s seas. These examples of potential solutions have been identified and compiled through a ‘best practice’ approach focusing on the processes, types of problems and types of solutions. As such, a wide range of initiatives that address the marine litter problem throughout its lifetime have been recorded, including Economic and Market Based Instruments, Policy/Regulation Implementation practices, Campaigns and other activities.
These 73 solutions have been evaluated in terms of their strengths and weaknesses, and 11 best practices that offer the greatest potential have been considered in greater detail, and will be used to prepare a hints and tools document, the ‘what-to-do’ guide, for decision making authorities.
